MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was the honourable guest speaker for the 66th Founding Anniversary of the Social Security System and hailed SSS for its job well done. He said, “The job that you are doing is exactly the job that we had asked you to do, to provide the safeness and to provide the guaranties for our people”
Social Security System was established on Sept. 1, 1957, as a continuously progressing social security institution providing universal and equitable social protection through world-class service. It has been more than a decade of service, SSS remains to manage a sound and viable social security system which shall promote social justice and provide meaningful protection to members and their families against the hazards of disability, sickness, maternity, old age, death and other contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden, especially on difficult times. It is by virtue of the Social Security Act of 1954 to serve as a government financial institution that provides social security protection to all Filipino workers.
The theme for the SSS anniversary celebration this year is “Kontribusyong Pinag-ipunan, Proteksyong Maaasahan,” which aims to foster a better future through the values of work, saving, investment and prospering.
The president stressed that since the new administration has begun, the implementation of the new schemes: the contributions of subsidy provider program; the flexible payment scheme for fisherman and farmers; the contribution penalty condonation program for business and household employers and the Consolidated loan program with the condonation penalties were being implemented.
“With programs like these which are timely, sensitive, and aware of the conditions of our employees, SSS has much reason to celebrate the 66th anniversary because the job that they have been doing continues to be of great value to our people. The idea of any insurance scheme is to provide safety for people during crises and everyday living.
“I ask you to keep up the good work. I can see that the SSS still has within its DNA, the continuing service that you are giving and the sensitivity that you show to the actual conditions of our people,” Marcos said.
Marcos encourages the said government entity to always embody excellence in everything they do and put the best interest of the Filipino people above everything else in their endeavours. He expressed optimism that the SSS would continue to embody excellence and give importance to the Filipino people’s best interests.
“The SSS’ critical role in strengthening our country’s social protection is more crucial now than ever. With the country recovering from the pandemic, with the country trying to recover from the shocks that are coming from the geopolitical situation around the world, still I am truly excited to see more ways in which the SSS will bring its services closer to its members and make a positive impact in the communities that you serve,” Marcos said.
PBBM also said, “I commit myself to every initiative that will improve the efficiency and productivity of the SSS and thereby improve the lad and welfare of our people. The SSS’s critical role in strengthening our country’s social protection is more crucial now than ever. With the country recovering from the pandemic, the country trying to recover from the shocks that are coming from the Geo-political situation around the world, I am still truly excited to see more ways in which the SSS will bring its services closer to its members and make a positive impact in the communities that you serve. With a strong, stable and secure SSS, I see a better and brighter future for its members and the entire country.”
